I helped teach in a seventh grade Language Arts class at Clarendon Hills Middle School, the same middle school I attended a few years ago. My classroom was rather large, 27 students, and had 18 male students. It's mostly all caucasian with one asian student, so the racial diversity is limited and is similar to what I experience now in high school and have been experiencing in my life. The writing curriculum focused mainly on the format and content of argumentative and memoir writing. I helped students learn to write a proper thesis statement through multiple levels of conferencing. However I was much more involved in the memoir writing because I taught almost half of the content as my unit lesson. Most days I helped students with questions and monitored them while the teacher talked. I took Enriched Language Arts (ELA), so I helped two students occassionaly who the teacher noticed as possible ELA students with the advanced vocabulary work that I had formerly done. They also read "The Outsiders" which I wasn't too involved in since it was at the beginning of the year when I was mainly observing and doing small tasks. I also taught two mini lessons, a unit lesson, brought in a guest speaker, and created a visual aid for the classroom.

Mandated Reporter Certificate
Before I began my internship in the classroom, I had received training to become a Mandated Reporter. I wanted to get this so I would be fully able as an intern to report potential issues that I see happening with or to my students. I believe it made me a better education because I was aware of such important problems that would conflict with learning in classroom.
